The first Hellenic Festival, hosted by Hellenic Club in partnership with Fair Canberra Inc, at the weekend was a huge success, as over 3,500 Canberran’s braved the rain to enjoy street food, performances and more from a wide range of cultures in the Canberra community.

The festival was opened both days with a traditional Welcome to Country ceremony performed by Duncan Smith and his daughter, and on Saturday featured cultural performances from backgrounds including Chinese, Indian, African, Pacific Islander, South American and more.

On Sunday, it was a true Greek affair, with a packed day full of traditional Greek dancing performances, music from Greek band, Defi, pita bread and loukoumades eating competitions and Greek zeibekiko dancing competition. Not even the rain could dampen the community spirit as the crowd danced in the rain and enjoyed the entertainment.

We would like to thank all the members of the Canberra community who came and helped make the first Hellenic Festival such a success. See you in 2022!
