About Us.
Our journey.
During the late 1960’s and early 1970’s there was an overwhelming social need for Canberra’s Greek Community to have a meeting place and social venue. They needed a place to bring their families alongside their Greek and Australian friends. In particular, a place to gather for dances, weddings, children’s groups and a meeting place for the elderly to socialise.
Finally, in 1976, excavations began on the Phillip site. On 9 May 1976, the land was blessed by the Greek Orthodox Archbishop Ezekiel and the Greek Ambassador laid a brick in the footings. Construction was at last underway on the site to house Canberra’s Hellenic Club.
The Hellenic Club opened for business on 24 February 1979. After many years of hard effort, the Greek Community had not only a place to meet but also the vehicle to showcase the Greek culture and cuisine to the wider ACT community.
In 2009, the Hellenic Club expanded opening its second location. The Hellenic Club in the City continues to thrive and provide another venue for the Greek and wider community of Canberra to dine and be entertained.
Since its establishment, the Hellenic Club has continually developed, offering the best club facilities and service in the Canberra region. The Club has also contributed enormous economic and social benefits to the ACT economy and has served as the bridge between the Greek and Australian cultures. In fact, the Hellenic Club currently provides employment to over 200 people and contributes to worthwhile community projects and groups, charities and sport.
Today, the Hellenic Club is well-known for its amazing giveaways, fine dining, live entertainment, customer service and community spirit. The Club has become so much more than the community hall it was first planned to be.
Celebrating 40 years in 2019.
In 2019 the Hellenic Club of Canberra celebrated an exciting milestone - its 40th birthday. To help celebrate and thank the Club’s members and guests for their patronage over the last four decades, the Club hosted a wide range of promotions and events, including a historic exhibition and 40th Birthday Celebration. The Club also took this opportunity to produce the celebratory video below, showcasing the Club’s four-decade-long journey.

Appointment of Auditor.
Hellenic Club of Canberra Limited (‘the Company’) announces that BDO Audit Pty Ltd (‘BDO Audit’) has been appointed as auditor of the Company. The appointment follows the resignation of BDO East Coast Partnership (‘BDO ECP’), and ASIC’s consent to the resignation in accordance with s329(5) of the Corporations Act 2001 (‘the Act’). The change of auditor arose as a result of BDO ECP restructuring its audit practice whereby audits will be conducted by BDO Audit, an authorised audit company, rather than BDO ECP.
