Apollo Room, Hellenic Club Woden
Free Admission

The Imbros & Gallipoli Exhibition comprises 20 display panels revealing some of the key aspects of the role of the Northern Aegean Island of Imbros in the Gallipoli campaign of 1915-16.  The panels explain this story is told through a series of major themes.

The display combines the reproduction of archival photographs (from Australia and overseas), modern photographs of Imbros and newly created maps identifying the key sites on Imbros identified in the Exhibition. All of these are supported and explained by an authoritative text based on extensive research amongst the historical archive relating to Imbros and Gallipoli.

The display was created for Melbourne’s Imvrian Society by the historian Jim Claven OAM, with the financial support of the Victorian Government’s Veterans Grants program, City of Kingston and community fundraising. The research on which the display is based drew on Mr Claven’s extensive research into the Hellenic link to Anzac, into photographic and documentary archives in Australia and overseas. Mr Claven acknowledges the assistance and work of the Imvrian Society’s project officer, Mr George Xinos.

ANZAC - The Greek Chapter

Friday 4 April 2025, 7pm
Apollo Room, Hellenic Club Woden
Free Admission

April 1941 – Hitler launches his invasion of Greece. In homes across Australia and New Zealand people feared what lay ahead for their loved ones who were sent as part of the Allied force sent to defend Greece. This documentary tells the story of that valiant defence like never before.

Drawing on over 130 hours of veteran interviews, see and listen to the story of the campaign from the veterans themselves.

See them make their way north to stand alongside their Greek comrades as part of the Allied defence force. Listen to them recount the bitter battles and sorrows of the campaign. Hear them praise their Greek hosts who fought with them and helped them.

Narrated by Barrie Cassidy whose father served in the campaign, the documentary is a unique account of this campaign and of the Anzacs who served there. A fitting document of this essential part of the Hellenic link to the Anzac story. Not to be missed.

Jim Claven, Historian and Associate Producer of the film, will be present for a Q&A after the documentary.
